For those that would like to participate in Sepulchral Roots, but don't have a lot of Lovecraftian lore top of mind, here are a couple of resources that might help:
I didn't actually see this comment until after I'd finished my piece, but I used the Lovecraft fandom wiki. It's very comprehensive, and a great way to doublecheck facts. It also includes the various expansions by other writers, so that if someone read many of those as I did, it's a way to make sure that a particular detail came from Lovecraft rather than from later.
By the way, for anyone interested, Amazon has more than one complete short story collection for Lovecraft. Strangely, the contents differ slightly. One of them includes a couple of pieces of juvenile writing that the others don't. None of them include the collaborations or ghost writings (which aren't public domain yet). Many have pretty inexpensive Kindle editions.
Question on Sepulchral Roots rule: "Keep it around 5k words". Does that mean 'Under'? Would a 2k or 3k word story work, or are you trying to keep all the stories roughly the same length?
Excited to see who will participate in this project. I'm on the fence--I'm not super familiar with Lovecraft, but I have a book of his in my possession, so maybe now it's time to get acquainted.
But is the competition still going on? I mean the Wicked Writing about Sculptures? June 17? Or did I miss something…
I know it probably took too much time and work (I know these little things do take time), but I did like it when you mentioned all the MM participants according to those funky categories - the storytellers, the poets etc. It was fun and it definitely helped to uplift more MM folk, but you’re the bosses!🤷♀️
Hello, Kathrine! This is going to take the place of the competition, but will reconsider an event in the future. We will also feature selected authors according to their unique contributions to this project! We hope that this joint world building project continues to bring new eyes to our many talented members 😊
Perhaps I missed this part of the announcement, but is there a goal for project.? For instance, will the resulting stories become an anthology?
To be clear, I'm not suggesting there has to be some end goal. It's a lot of fun, regardless. But since I'm planning my own anthology for my Substack shorts, I'd want to make sure not to include my Lovecraft piece if that would interfere with community plans.
Hello! Yes, there will be an anthology hosted on our website! Your story will be linked on a list and promoted to our followers here on the blog. Hope that clarifies!

There's at least one great audiobook of his fiction. The founding members of the Lovecraft Historical Society narrate, bringing the stories to life:

I spent eight years at sea. This timing is just killing me. 😂 Time for some soul searching
Yes! We’re so excited to read a contribution colored by real-word experience

(Either way sounds splendid.)
I think 5k is the upper limit
Thank for the share!

Oh this is very, very tempting…
I HAVE SO MUCH GOING ON--but a new community writing project... Lovecraft....hmmmm. I will consider it strongly.
Please do! We'd love to have your talent on the project ♥️

Yes, that’s all I needed to know.
