2024 is a wrap, and thanks to all of you, Macabre Monday is bustling with incredible horror stories. It’s time to celebrate all the wonderful creators in our midst, and the readers who make all the work worth it. In 2025, we want to continue to highlight, support, and grow our community. If you know a writer or reader who might want to join in, share this with them.
And with that I ask the question:
What were your top horror watches, reads, and listens of 2024?
I’ll start.
Film - Heretic. In an interview Hugh Grant said he had to wait until he was old and ugly to finally get the roles he wants. Well, it was worth the wait.
Short Story Collection - You Like It Darker, by Stephen King. I’m a super fan, but this one was E X C E L L E N T.
Novel - Horror Movie, by Paul Tremblay. Disturbing meta weirdness that just hit right.
Audiobook - Boy’s Life, by Robert R. McCammon (old, but new to me). Maybe not technically horror, but horrific nonetheless.
The Weekly Digest
A selection of last week’s memorable Macabre Monday offerings:
Three of our MM crew completed serials. If you like to wait to binge before reading longer stories, here is your chance!
- gave us a delectable assortment of creepy 50 word stories.
- terrified with chapter 4 of his serial, Dracula’s Ghost. Looking forward to Nosferatu? Whet your palate with this dark delight.
- carried us to a magical world where wishes come true with a short story, “The Hawthorn Tree.” Just be careful of the fae folk…
Two of our community members contributed to Sum Flux, a collaborative Substack. Read their stories here, and see the links included to learn more about this zine and its current theme, The Lot.
I'm sure others have already expressed this here, but I really enjoyed the Yellowjackets TV show, and also season 1 of The Terror (although The Terror is older).
Thanks for linking my Sum Flux story!
