It's fun for me listening to your view on horror as someone who, like your little brother, has always been a horror fan. You hit on a feeling I've had about the genre for a long time, that being the misunderstanding of what the genre can and does entail. Horror's goal is to invoke feelings of discomfort, disquiet, and fear, and there's many ways to do this that doesn't rely on the crutch of cheap jump scares or copious amounts of blood and gore. (Though those have their place, too.) For someone like yourself who doesn't seem to enjoy the conrenporary overreliance on shock value and cheap scare tactics, something that I'm also disinclined towards, it's not surprising that genre didn't appeal until very recently because that's the face of it which is most commonly shown.
And with that said, great interview, sir. I'll endeavor to work more of your work into my reading schedule as best I can.
Finally catching up on this. Great interview Michael--laughed out loud at a couple points. I like how you make your points and your attitude towards writing fiction. And as always--great interviewing Maya, well done!

Was finally able to listen through this. A little nervous on how I would sound but I like the final product. Thanks Maya for the interview.
