if any of you HAVEN'T read "The Loney" by A M Hurley. that is an absolute cracker dealing with the uncomfortable unspoken horrors beneath folk tradition. one of the best horror stories ive read in years. he's not come close with his next books. that must be tough when your first novel is so good.
as a result of that book a gang of us hunted out the "pace eggers" ... sinister easter time street performances...a peculiarly British thing... quite hard to explain in words. drunken debauched pseudo Christian street punch and judy performance with some rather racially unsound roots in the crusades. the villagers love it. I confess also to loving it.
Thank you! I actually have a village story vaguely inspired by The Lottery sitting somewhere in my documents 😁 I love this prompt
Thank you so much for the shoutout and share! Honored!!!
Here's one of my Flammark tales for you. I think it mostly fits the village brief. It's quite horrid...https://open.substack.com/pub/mordant/p/the-spatchcock?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=1knmfk
Do you guys do general submissions?
