Storytelling is an art older than the written word itself. Through mythology and folklore, stories were passed down from generation to generation before anyone thought to record on clay tablets and papyrus what was being said. To tell stories is an essential part of being human.
Not only is storytelling in our collective DNA, but sharing scary stories is an essential element of that rite. We seek answers to questions. We all want to explore what we fear and, more importantly, gain an understanding for why we fear it. The crypt keepers here at Macabre Monday thrive on exploring fear through the scary stories we tell.
A new poem below celebrates this storytelling journey through the macabre side of life and death.
Blame my mother. Always sharing bedtime stories. Dark tales of monsters luring unsuspecting children down a path of doom. Her legacy lives in me. I spin and weave. A creeping spider fashioning an intricate web. Terror is my sandbox Horror is my playground. Monsters lurk in shadows. Annexing closets and beds. All menacing generals conquering fresh territory. Witches dance in pale moonlight brewing endless spells. Turning your blood cold. Inviting nightmares to stay. I am the storyteller giving these beings tangible form. Opening wandering eyes. Whispering in ears. Bringing fear right to your door.
