While the first day of summer arrives this week, no true beginning or end exists for the scary season. Horror is never fixed to a specific date on the calendar. Terrifying stories work their dark magic in any season.
We saw this firsthand with the Eye See You story contest and event from
on Friday the 13th. More than two dozen scary and squeamish tales guaranteed to dominate your nightmares long after you read the final sentence. I had the chance to help judge the stories and got a welcome reminder that horror doesn’t wait for Halloween. served up an inspired dark prompt in last week’s newsletter, urging readers and subscribers to craft a monster story without explicitly naming the monster or detailing its origin.This week, I’m asking for you to share your favorite summer horror stories with us. The setting, characters, or plot can be influenced by summer or summer activities. Where does your dark heart turn when you think of this season? A haunted forest? A deadly summer camp? A beach where the sand eats people?
